How To Find Your Purpose, Happiness and Fulfillment...Quickly

What are you the best in the world at doing?

  • You have world-class skill at this ability.

  • You have passion for this ability and it gives you the highest levels of energy during your business day and even spills into your personal life?

  • Even though you excel at this ability, you seek ways to improve on it.

In coaching circles, one of the most transformative concepts I've come across is the idea of discovering and honing your "Unique Ability."

Coined by Strategic Coach, the Unique Ability construct is all about identifying the activities and skills that you are exceptionally good at, passionate about, energized by, and committed to improving continuously.

Once you have identified 1-3 of your Unique Abilities, the optimal business structure is to build a team around you that handles everything except what is covered with your Unique Ability.

This is how you find professional happiness.

This is how you 10X your business and life.

If you do not know your Unique Ability, you owe it to yourself to spend time figuring it out.

It needs to be defined and written down.  To begin exploring your Unique Ability, consider brainstorming activities and skills in your day-to-day life that align with these four qualities (From Strategic Coach):

Superior Skill: This is something you excel at without effort. You produce outstanding results naturally, often without realizing it. It’s something others notice about you, depend on, and value highly.

Passion: Your Unique Ability is something you love doing—so much so that you probably did it long before it ever became part of your job or career. Many people unknowingly give away their Unique Ability for free, not realizing how special and valuable it truly is.

Energy: When you are operating in your Unique Ability, it doesn't feel like work. It’s energizing, and this energy is contagious to those around you. Imagine spending your days surrounded by others who are also operating in their Unique Ability—positivity, creativity, and dynamism are the inevitable results.

Never-Ending Improvement: Even though you're already exceptional at this, there’s a lifelong commitment to mastery. You see endless opportunities for growth, learning, and refinement in this are This exercise can be enhanced if you have your Kolbe A score.

The Kolbe A Index focuses on how you take action when you are free to be yourself, highlighting your instinctive way of doing things. (More info on the Kolbe here)

The Kolbe can be a powerful tool for aligning your natural methods of problem-solving with your Unique Ability.

-->Your Unique Ability is what you do when you are being the best version of yourself.

For example, here are what I consider my Unique Abilities:

My #1 Unique Ability is communicating complex concepts in a way that is simple to understand.

I am the best version of myself when I am presenting investment strategies, financial plans or coaching high-performing advisors. I also thrive with this Unique Ability in podcasting, giving keynotes, delivering trainings, writing books and Saturday Notes.

My #2 Unique Ability is building simple systems that solve problems.

I am the best version of myself when I am building investment models, financial planning systems and business systems for advisors and firms.

My #3 Unique Ability...I only share with my clients.

--> Takeaway: Taking the time to discover your Unique Ability will help you find your purpose, happiness and fulfilment...quickly.
