Should You Start A Newsletter?

The 1st Saturday Note was published on December 30th 2023.

My goal was to publish it weekly for 6 months and then reevaluate.

I had very low expectations for the project.

I got the idea from my friend and business partner Vince Caine.

He told me that his weekly email was one of the most impactful things he had done for his business.

The Note has had several iterations/adjustments in the 1st 6 months.

  • Some Notes have been turned into podcasts. (Link)

  • It has had a successful launch on LinkedIn with 2k subscribers.

  • I updated my profile image on the note to better reflect how poorly I have aged!

  • I only produced one Note about investing which surprised me as that was the original intention of the Note.

The Note has reconnected me with old friends, old clients and helped me uncover new business.

My teenage kids read the Note (sometimes).

I have been able to share about the loss of two people that were very close to me, with one of them receiving over 16k views on YouTube. (Link

I have learned that people are sharing Notes with their children and co-workers.

So....Should you start a newsletter yourself?

If you are even slightly inclined, I highly recommend trying it.

I don't particularly like social media, but the platforms have been great for expanding my network.

But, this Note gets to everyone who has signed up...unlike social media posts.

If you are not sure if it is right for you, start with a monthly newsletter and try it for 6 months.
